My little creative endeavor involved magazine clippings, a canvas and some Mod Podge - all good until the paint arrived later in the process.

My little creative endeavor involved magazine clippings, a canvas and some Mod Podge – all good until the paint arrived later in the process.  Fail.

But the bright light of the day?  Laughing with friends and picking up The Hunger Games soundtrack at Starbucks.  I love movie soundtracks as much as I like vinyl records.  Top five movie soundtracks that come to mind?

Today seemed to be a cycle of fail.  I hit “send” too soon on an email blast from work, my creative project turned out to be a disaster (yes, major flop as you will see in the photos below), I took Emma on a hike that never lead to the beautiful mossy rocks that I promised.  Fail. Fail. Fail.  There were other blunders – I should have been more present for friends, I wasn’t home to make dinner for my other daughter… The pattern of would have, could have, should have played on repeat.

And then, I discovered track #2 on The Hunger Games soundtrack….

Tomorrow will be kinder
It’s true, I’ve seen it before
A brighter day is coming my way
Yes, tomorrow will be kinder

Tomorrow Will Be Brighter, The Secret Sisters

Last year I read Brené  Brown’s book, The Gifts of Imperfection: Let Go of Who You Think You’re Supposed to Be and Embrace Who You Are.  I read it, wrote in the margins, re-read segments and started following the Ordinary Courage blog that Brené  Brown writes at http://www.ordinarycourage.com/.  The Gifts of Imperfection is a treasure of a book.  It is a brilliant blueprint about living a more authentic and compassionate life, while learning to embrace our own imperfections.  Perfectionism is over-rated became my mantra today.  To me being authentic is all about overcoming our fears and having faith in our dreams.   It is about expressing our creative gifts and sharing them.   It is about believing in each other and supporting each other as we walk this path. It really is all about stepping out of the darkness and into the light.

My little creative endeavor involved magazine clippings, a canvas and some Mod Podge – all good until the paint arrived later in the process.

I added two butterflies and the words hope and painted the entire canvas. Once dry I peeled the hope letters and butterflies off to reveal the clipping collage beneath framed by the paint layer…

Not exactly the look I was hoping for. The word trust became rust! Back to this canvas another day. Fail. Flop. Laugh.
